Post 16 at Cromwell

Welcome to Cromwell Community College Sixth Form where the individual student is key.

Over the past few years, we have increased our subject offers to cater for our student’s needs in an ever changing world; we pride ourselves on the provision and outcomes of our Post-16 students.

Here at Cromwell, we have a caring and experienced team of Post-16 staff and academic tutors to ease the transition from Year 11 into Year 12, assisting your son or daughter to make their next exciting steps. It is vital students gain as much information, advice and guidance to ensure they make the right decision for their futures.

Post 16 education at Cromwell is vibrant with a new Post 16 Centre; this includes a large common room, private study classrooms, laptops and a state of the art IT room - all exclusively for Post 16 students. My office is based in this area too, so I am readily available to offer support and advice.

Using regular data gathering, on-line reporting and face to face consultations with students and parents, we track our students’ progress throughout their two years with us. The Post-16 Academic mentoring team has a major role to play in this, taking on both academic and pastoral responsibilities.  Post-16 mentor groups have separate Year 12 and Year 13 students so the sessions can be targeted for their year group. The new leadership structure in Sixth form means there are opportunities for the role of Senior Head Boy and Girl, as well as senior ambassadors to further develop lifelong skills.

Life as a Post-16 student is not simply a continuation of Year 11, the style of teaching, mode of study and the responsibilities of being a Sixth Former are very different. However, being part of Cromwell at Post-16 is not just about studying to do well in academic subjects, it is also about having experiences in other areas, developing as a whole person by increasing and improving one’s personal skills. Have a look at all of the wonderful additional opportunities we have on offer, from Duke of Edinburgh Gold to performing arts. In your daily afternoon sessions you will have the chance to make a portfolio of evidence for the prestigious Student Leadership award (SLA) which you can achieve from bronze to gold.

A great deal is expected of our senior students in school. We do not have a uniform as such but we do have a dress code; students are expected to set the right example to junior members of College in attendance, appearance, attitude and academic standards.

Here at Cromwell we strive to challenge, stretch, encourage and educate in a friendly and caring environment; no matter which courses are studied we have high expectations for all our students.
